About Marrilllia

Marrilllia started with a stack of plates. Not the pretty ones you bring out for holidays, but the ones you reach for on a Tuesday night when you are too tired to think about dinner, the ones that go from oven to table to dishwasher and come out looking the same as they did the day you bought them. We spent eighteen months testing dinnerware from big-box stores, boutique makers, and restaurant suppliers before we designed our first collection. What we learned is that most sets are built around looks, not around how people actually eat. Glazes that craze after three months. Rims that chip when stacked. Shapes that do not fit in a standard dishwasher rack. We decided to do it differently.

We do not make plates for display cabinets. We make plates for people who cook, who serve family-style, who reheat leftovers, who eat breakfast standing at the counter, who host dinner parties that run late, who need a bowl that holds a full portion of pasta without spilling over the edge. That is the only brief we give our ceramicists.

What makes a plate last

Every piece in our dinnerware line is made from a high-iron porcelain body fired at 2350 degrees Fahrenheit, which vitrifies the clay to a density that resists moisture absorption. That means no crazing, no hazing, no hairline cracks developing over time from thermal shock. We use a lead-free, cadmium-free glaze that is applied by hand in three coats, not sprayed on in a single pass. The glaze formulation was developed specifically for our clay body, not a generic off-the-shelf recipe, which creates a true fit between the glaze and the clay. You can put these plates under a broiler and take them out to the table. You can put them in the freezer and move them to a hot oven. The material can handle the transition.

The rims are thickened by 2.5 millimeters compared to standard commercial dinnerware, which makes them significantly more resistant to chipping from stacking and from the occasional knock against the sink edge. The foot rings are ground flat on the bottom, not left raw, so they do not scratch table surfaces and they sit level on any countertop. We test every production batch for glaze adhesion, thermal shock resistance, and impact strength. We do not rely on our factory’s quality control reports. We run our own tests in our Atlanta warehouse before any piece goes into inventory.

Proportions that work at the table

We spent more time on the diameter and depth of our pasta bowls than on any other single piece. Most pasta bowls are either too shallow to hold sauce without spilling or too deep to stack neatly in a cabinet. We landed on a 9.5-inch diameter with a 2.25-inch depth, which holds a full portion of spaghetti with enough rim space to twirl without pushing food over the edge. Our dinner plates are 10.75 inches, which fits in a standard dishwasher without blocking the spray arm, and our salad plates are 8.25 inches, which is large enough for a substantial lunch but small enough to use as a side plate at dinner. These sizes were chosen based on measuring actual dishwasher racks and actual dinner portions, not on decorative trends.

What we hear back

Customers tell us they have replaced their daily-use dinnerware with Marrilllia and given away their old sets. They tell us they serve guests and guests ask where the plates came from. They tell us the bowls are deep enough for soup and cereal and chili and pasta. They tell us they put the plates in the dishwasher every night and they still look new after a year. We receive emails from people who bought a set for their own kitchen and then bought three more for wedding gifts. We have customers who have been using our dinnerware for over two years and send us photos of their plates still in rotation, no cracks, no chips, no faded glazes.

Shipping and returns

If a piece does not meet your expectations, we accept returns within 30 days of delivery. The items must be in original condition, unwashed and unused. We cover return shipping for orders shipped within the U.S. — we email you a prepaid label, you pack the items back in the original box, and you drop it off at any UPS location. Refunds are processed within three business days of our receiving the return. We do this because we know that dinnerware breaks in transit and we would rather send a replacement than make you wait on a return.

Contact

You can reach us through the contact form on our site, and we respond within one business day. For questions about an existing order, include your order number so we can pull up your information quickly. We do not use automated response scripts. Every email is read and replied to by a person who has access to inventory, shipping, and production information. If we do not have an immediate answer, we tell you that and follow up when we do.

Our support email is Support@marrilllia.com. We check this inbox throughout the day, including weekends. If you have a question about size, finish, microwave safety, or anything else, send it over. We would rather answer a question before you order than process a return after.
